Port of Seattle

Our high school internships are a great fit for students interested in exploring careers within our organization that fall into the following career focus areas: aviation operation, maritime operations, governance, civic engagement, and environmental jobs.

What you will gain from Port of Seattle internships:
The Port of Seattle’s High School Internship Program is designed to provide you with the skills you need to be successful in a corporate environment.

Interns will learn the Port’s Code of Conduct and communications technology, as well as business skills such as:

  • diversity and inclusion,
  • process improvement,
  • project management,
  • networking,
  • public speaking,
  • communications,
  • and leadership.

A variety of career awareness activities will be available during the summer to promote learning and increase exposure to various aspects of the Port. This includes mentorship meetings, facility tours, LinkedIn 101, and resume workshops.

This is a 2-week immersive computer science and career exploration experience for SPS high school students. Students will take part in hands-on, real-world computer science learning experiences, explore careers of the future, and enhance core workplace skill sets.

Summer Learning Experience

King County Wastewater Treatment Division

Seeking 12 interns interested in learning how government agencies, nonprofit organizations and local communities influence the health of the waterways in the Puget Sound region.

Interns will gain a deep understanding of the role we all play in this issue, and the careers that contribute to improving water quality and protecting the environment. Interns will learn about environmental and social justice issues by participating in field trips and workshops.

A large component of the internship involves practicing communication skills and improving public speaking. The goal is for interns to pass on the knowledge they gain to members of their school and community.

Miller Hull

One full-time, paid internship is offered to a high school student who has completed their junior or senior year. For three weeks, this student may have an opportunity to tour construction sites, attend team meetings and work in a professional environment.

Over the course of the summer, a portfolio of the intern’s work will be assembled and will culminate in a brief presentation on their last day. Transit expenses to get to our studio are covered.

Agricultural Sciences

Duwamish River Community Coalition

A paid environmentally based job skills program for teens. Participants spend a significant amount of time outdoors in the South Park and Georgetown communities and natural areas learning about ecology and job skills.

The program is equal parts environmental science, job skills training, stewardship and outdoor hands-on work. We seek a diverse group of teens to create a balanced team.

Seattle Public Schools

Most of the internships are are paid & hosted by local businesses & non profits. Unpaid internships can be used toward a student’s 60-hour, Service Learning graduation requirement. Currently there are 34 internships open to SPS students & graduates ages 14-24 in a wide range of locations.

Museum of History & Industry

Looking for teens that are passionate about history and community to join the MOHAI Youth Advisors (MYA). At the same time, MYA gives teens access to museum professionals and adult mentors, and helps them connect with their local history.

MYA meets twice a month, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the museum, providing feedback & input on MOHAI projects, and planning events & opportunities for teens at the museum. MYA is a place for high school students to investigate, explore, and be empowered to create a more teen-friendly museum.

Microsoft

Microsoft’s High School Discovery Program is open to rising first-year students of a bachelor’s degree program (graduating high school seniors) that live around Redmond, Washington OR Atlanta, Georgia who have an interest in technology.

During this 4-week internship, Discoverers will have the opportunity to experience the Design phase of the product development cycle, develop foundational skills while gaining mentorship from Microsoft employees and community building. You will discover how your passions can evolve into a career in tech at Microsoft and beyond.

CHPA is a 6-session high school program designed to help high school students explore the health professions in an engaging, and supportive atmosphere.

The CHPA academy provides hands-on activities in each of following fun careers – dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, social work, and public health.

ANEW’s Trades Rotation Program (TRP) and the Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Education (PACE) Program which are our pre-apprenticeship training programs for those interested in pursuing occupations in the construction trades.

These 12-week programs give womxn and men the confidence and competitive edge needed to enter apprenticeship programs and high-paying construction careers.

ACE

Mentorship Program for students interested in Architecture, Structural/Civil Engineering, Construction, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and more!

ACE is an after-school mentor program for high school students. The program offers students the chance to work with professionals from leading firms in Seattle, Bellevue, and Tacoma.

Students will complete hands-on activities, office hours, videos, and design projects. careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentoring and continued support for their advancement into the industry.

Department of Vocational Rehabilitation

Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), our Youth Exploration Program introduces youth to living wage career opportunities in the construction industry.

The Youth Exploration Program is designed to introduce career exploration to in-school youth ages 14-21 with an IEP or 504 Plan to apprentice-able pathways in the trades.

The program consists of:

  • Work-Readiness Classroom Workshops: Held virtually or in-person during the school year;
  • Summer Boot Camps: Work-based learning, 40-hour paid training;
  • Exploring Trades Careers: Through job site tours, informational interviews, and job shadowing, when available and
  • Strength Building: How to support ones needs while practicing self-advocacy, workplace communication, and team building.

    Seattle Promise

    "Seattle Promise is a college tuition and success program launched by Seattle Colleges, Seattle Public Schools, and the City of Seattle following passage of the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy in 2018.

    Seattle Promise has three core components:

    Free tuition at any of the Seattle Colleges: North Seattle College, Seattle Central College or South Seattle College for up to two years, 90 college credits or a student's first degree, whichever comes first.

    Equity scholarships, which provide flexible funding to students, for books, transportation, housing, etc. for those with financial need.

    Student support and advising beginning in the junior year of high school and lasting through completion of a degree, certificate, credential or transfer to a four-year institution.

    All graduating seniors attending Seattle public high schools are eligible for the Seattle Promise program regardless of grade point average (GPA), income, ability, or country of birth."

    Elks National Foundation

    "The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2025 competition. Male and female students compete separately.

    Ranging from $1,000 per year to $7,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university.

    All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university."
